Lady Luck
The lottery win was a welcome change after months of bad luck.
‘Its fate,’ Annie told her son, Daniel. ‘Our new beginning, like the fortune teller said.’
When she asked her son what he most wanted, Daniel said: ‘A giant garden. With lots of room to play football. And loads of trees to climb.’
She found the perfect house but waited till Monday. After all, anything bought on Saturday only brought trouble.
But now, Daniel was biting his lip and trembling. He couldn’t take his eyes off the gate. There were upside down hearts on it! Surely they must mean something very terrible indeed …

It’s amazing what a child will see and interpret. Now I too wonder what the meaning of those upside hearts is…
Great story Siobhan!

Dear Siobhán,
Mother and son are both superstitious, aren’t they? Hoping things work out for them. Love the story.

That was a great observation, the upside down hearts. Turn love upside down and you get evol – evolution? He’s turning his back on a great chance

What a superstitious lot! I hope there’s not a ladder across the door or a black cat lurking in the bushes!

You can take superstition a tad too far, I think. I never noticed those hearts…
