National Poetry Writing Month Poem #4 – Saving The Olive Tree

Day four of the NaPoWriMo challenge is to write either a love poem or a break-up poem without the clichés.
See the National Poetry Writing Month Facebook page or www.napowrimo.com for more on this challenge.

Saving the olive tree

You took the olive branch
I gave you
and used it as a stick with which
to beat yourself

You tell anyone who cares to listen
that I hate you.
Leaving would be so much easier
if only that were true.

You’ve managed to capture a very complex relationship in so few words. Wonderfully done.
