I have decided to embrace the challenge of National Poetry Writing Month (see www.napowrimo.net) to write a poem a day in April. I suspect that I will not manage 30, especially at times when I have a lot of work on but I feel this is a good time to give some attention to poetry-writing so here goes. If anyone else is doing this challenge I would love to know.
Please bear in mind that the poems for this challenge will all be first drafts. Any feedback will be appreciated.
NaPoWriMo Poem #1 is:
Popping out for coffee between the showers
This is not the smell of rain.
It is the spray of crashing Atlantic waves
blowing into my town.
This is not the air of town.
It is the adventure of an empty beach in winter
when I need to get out for a while.
This is not a beach in winter
but as I hurry back to the office I feel
a little bit more alive.
